What treatment abroad usually looks like
Every case is different, but the process often follows the same outline. You tell us about your situation and send any reports you already have. We pass your details to doctors and hospitals and bring their opinions back to you. When you've chosen who you'd like to work with, you agree on dates and practical details before booking any travel.
Depending on the treatment plan, some stages may happen at home and others at the clinic. Some people need one trip, others need more. Your doctor is the right person to tell you what applies to you, so ask for the plan in writing before you decide anything.
Who may consider it
People come to fertility treatment abroad for many different reasons. Some have been trying to conceive for a long time. Some have had cycles that didn't work and want another specialist's view. Others have been told they may need donor eggs or sperm, or they're looking for options that aren't available where they live.
Being a good candidate depends on your health, your history and the rules that apply to you. A doctor needs to look at your medical details first. We can't tell you in advance whether a treatment will suit you.
What to have ready before you contact us
You don't need everything on this list, and you can always add more later. It helps if you can share:
- Your age and, if relevant, your partner's age
- Previous test results, scans and treatment history
- Any current medication and known health conditions
- What you're hoping for, and what worries you
- When you'd like to travel, if you have dates in mind
You can upload your documents through our inquiry form, or send them on WhatsApp if the files are large.
Gender selection: what you should know
Some patients ask about choosing the sex of their baby during IVF. We want to be honest about this, because it's a sensitive subject.
There are two quite different situations. The first is medical: embryo testing to avoid passing on a serious inherited condition. The second is a personal choice, for example wanting a child of a particular sex or a balance in the family. Doctors, lawmakers and ethics bodies don't agree about the second one. In many countries it's restricted or not allowed at all, and the rules can change.
We can't tell you what is permitted for you. That depends on the law in your own country and in the country where you'd be treated, and you are responsible for checking both. Please ask the clinic directly, and take your time with the decision. Talk it through with your partner and your doctor. No clinic can promise a specific outcome, and we don't either.
Questions worth asking any clinic
Before you choose, ask the clinic to answer these clearly, and keep the answers in writing:
- Is the clinic officially licensed, and by which authority? Can you see the licence?
- Who will perform your procedures, and what are their qualifications?
- What exactly is included in the plan, and what isn't?
- If donor eggs, sperm or embryos are involved, how are donors screened and matched?
- How are embryos and your medical records stored, and who has access?
- What follow-up care is available once you're back home?
- What happens if there are complications?
A good clinic will be comfortable with these questions. If you get vague answers, that tells you something too.
How MedWellGo helps
We're a coordination team, not a clinic. We don't provide treatment and we don't make medical decisions for you. What we do is listen to your situation, collect opinions from doctors and hospitals, and share them with you so you can compare your options at your own pace. The consultation and the collection of medical opinions are free of charge and there's no obligation to go ahead.
Frequently asked questions
Is the consultation really free?
Yes. Our consultation and the collection of medical opinions cost you nothing. The treatment itself is not free and is arranged with the provider you choose.
How long would I need to stay?
It depends on your treatment plan, and only your doctor can tell you. Ask for the expected timeline in writing before you book flights or accommodation.
Can I send my previous reports?
Yes, and it helps a lot. You can upload up to 20 files of 5 MB each in the inquiry form. If your files are larger, message us on WhatsApp and we'll find another way.
Can you guarantee a pregnancy?
No. Nobody honestly can. Results depend on many individual factors, and any promise of a guaranteed outcome should make you cautious.
Is gender selection available?
Some clinics offer it, but the rules differ from country to country and may apply to you in ways we can't predict. Please read the section above and check the law in your own country and in the destination before making any plans.
How do I know a clinic is properly licensed?
Ask for the licence number and the name of the authority that issued it, then confirm it with that authority yourself. You're entitled to know this before you pay anything.
Not sure where to begin? Tell us about your situation and we'll help you understand the next steps. There's no pressure and no obligation.
